Porto’s Amazing Street Art

Porto’s amazing sights, exceptional ports, and delectable food get a lot of attention, but honestly the street art scene there is also next-level good. A lot of it can be found in prominent places throughout the city, but some of it is more hidden away down alleys. Much of it is extraordinary and part of what makes the cityscape so unique and charming.
In this post I’ll highlight some of the more prominent artists and their tremendous artwork.
No Worries It’s “Street Art!”
In 2014, the city of Porto officially sanctioned street art in the city—allowing for the proliferation of art and artists across the city.

Unique for her usual choice of medium (tile), her mosaics can be found in some of the city’s more prominent locales.

Violent deaths are prominent amongst the themes utilized by Berri Blue. So are hearts.

The Caver
Unique creatures and doorways to other dimensions are big themes for The Caver.

Costah
This woman (and sometimes a man with her) is the biggest recurring theme in Costah’s work.

Fedor
Another really impressive artist with some great characters.

Hazul
One of the more prominent members of the street art movement in the city, Hazul has been active for many years.

More Great Artists + Their Street Art

One of the big takeaways from living in Porto for me was that the prevalence of street art in the city meant that effort had been made to create a community of artists who took pride in their efforts to bring art to the city. This extended beyond the dozen or so “famous” artists working in the city to others who were taking the time to hone their craft and create their own voice through practice. All of this is possible only because the city of Porto has looked kindly on this kind of art as a way to revitalize and beautify their city. It’s something other cities should take note of.
